Job Description
The Director of Sports & Wellness is a strategic leadership role responsible for the vision, development, and execution of comprehensive athletic and wellbeing programming across the lifespan. This individual oversees sports initiatives from early childhood through adulthood, as well as wellness and fitness programs for young adults through seniors.
A dual-focus role, the Director also serves as the Sports Camp Director for Camp Shalom, spearheading the athletic specialty area during the summer season. The successful candidate will be a community-facing leader dedicated to fostering a culture of health, self-care, and inclusive engagement within the Jewish community and the greater Palm Beach area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Strategic Program Leadership Visionary Integration: Collaborate with Program Directors to design and implement an intentional integration of sports and wellness within existing youth and adult departments.
* Early Childhood & Youth Development: Oversee and instruct the Early Childhood Physical Education curriculum; design and facilitate high-quality after-school enrichment classes and sports clinics.
* Departmental Expansion: Scale the JCC’s Enrichment sector, including thematic events, birthday parties, and recreational programming for ages 2–14.
* Competitive Leagues: Develop and manage inclusive sports leagues for both children and adults, ensuring high standards of sportsmanship and safety.
* Camp Shalom & Seasonal Programming Specialty Directorship: Lead the Sports Specialty area for Camp Shalom (ages 5–16). Responsibilities include curriculum design, hiring, training, and evaluating sports specialists.
* Holiday Initiatives: Direct and manage “No School” holiday camps, as well as dedicated Winter and Spring Break sports sessions.
Community Engagement & Wellness Advocacy:
* Wellness Culture: Establish a robust culture of self-care by providing educational experiences, nutritional workshops, and fitness training for staff and community members.
* Outdoor & Community Outreach: Maximize local parks and outdoor resources to launch community-wide initiatives such as competitive races, water sports, and hiking excursions.
* Inclusive Programming: Partner with the Director of Special Needs to ensure all sports and wellness opportunities are accessible and engaging for individuals with exceptionalities.
Operations & Administration
* Marketing & Recruitment: Create and implement multi-channel recruitment strategies and marketing collateral to drive program enrollment.
* Fiscal Management: Develop and maintain annual program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
* Staff Supervision: Recruit, mentor, and supervise a team of coaches, instructors, and seasonal staff.
Position Requirements:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
* Experience: 3+ years of leadership experience in sports programming or youth development.
* Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize high-demand projects, and lead diverse teams with minimal supervision.
* Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills; comfort engaging with stakeholders of all ages.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
* Physical Stamina: Ability to exert moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stretching, and active participation in athletic activities.
* Schedule Flexibility: This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday peaks to meet program demands.
* Environment: Work is performed in both office settings (requiring keyboard/workstation proficiency) and active gymnasium/outdoor environments where noise levels may vary.
